“We all have at least one book hiding in the body.”
–Ceci Miller-Kridsberg

How can love be written without words? Grief? Rage? Even when we don’t have words, our bodies are suffused with feelings. Even when we don’t know what to call them, our bodies send out endless signals which our minds then proceed to name, narrate, and explain. I’m sad, because I miss someone, was hurt by someone, regret something…I’m scared because of what I’m scared of…I’m so excited about that concert we’re going to.

We don’t often intentionally slow the naming process down and allow ourselves to simply notice, without attaching habitual narratives to the volumes of information our bodies communicate.

After all, we’re story tellers. Of what use is a feeling that has no words, no narrative?

We’re going to find out.

In this First Sunday WOW experience, we’ll explore the nitty gritty of experience as the body knows it. We’ll explore how writing is enhanced by focusing on the many languages of the body, where endless sensations, colors, textures and images can be discovered when we learn how to look in their direction and as we come to believe what we find there.

Nancy Coleman, PhD is a practicing clinical psychologist, an author of two novels and an award-winning non-fiction book about generative writing (Wide Open Writing: Embrace Your Creative Genius), and a certified RYT yoga teacher. Embodiment is the only constant in her own writing practice, whether as prompt, compass, map of the territory or wise teacher, and we’re always excited to learn where this awareness may take us all.

Please join us. Bring your curiosity and wonder and wonder. And wear comfortable clothes, because gentle movement is always likely in a session led by Nancy.
