Washington DC — Harvest Weekend

This month, WOW is bringing its brand of sparkly, benevolent do-gooding to our nation’s capital.

For four days, Wide Open Writing will set up camp in the beautiful and historic Josephine Butler Parks Center to gift* community members with pop-up writing sessions, participation in Harvest Fest gatherings, a Day of the Dead processional, and opportunities for salon readings, tacos and various tricks and treats. How do we do it all? you ask. With lifted spirits, we answer. With deeply held beliefs in the power of the written and spoken word, with organizations like Washington Parks & People, Nature Sacred, Life Pieces to Masterpieces and GALA Hispanic Theatre, with joy in our hearts and silliness in our veins, and with your help.

Community activities begin:

Saturday morning October 29 with Washington Parks & People’s Harvest Fest and continue on through the weekend.

Here you can watch what it means for a neighborhood to come together and GROW. With your retreat attendance donation, you are invited to join in as visiting artists and WOW partners-in-time take the stage for a wondrium of words and whizbang wacky harvest hullaballoo.

The real deal commences on Sunday afternoon with an on-site WOW Mini Retreat. For the cost of a month of Pumpkin Spice Lattes, you can engage and create on the premises where Marvin Gaye had his musical debut. We say *gift* because we are giving it all away, but wow, we sure could use your help to make that happen.
