Please join WOW for our internationally acclaimed Wide Open Writing Classes, featuring experienced authors who are experts on the theme presented.

Imagine learning, for just $30 and in two hours, a component to building your work from your great idea to a publication-ready piece. Build that spark to a flame with lessons on editing, building your characters, crafting flash fiction, adding humor to a story, and more.

This opportunity is available quarterly on the third Thursday of the month, online, for $30.

Wherever you are in your writerly quest, the new landscape of the publishing industry makes this an excellent time to take control of your destiny as an author. Dr. Kyle McCord, poet and publisher, will direct this special WOW Writing class focused on strategies for moving your work to publication. Bring a pen! In this class, Kyle will lead you through taking a personal inventory of who you are as a writer and who you want to be, and delve into the various options for publishing that are open to writers these days: traditional publishing, self-publishing, and hybrid publishing, a nuanced and author-centric model that combines elements of the traditional and self-publishing worlds.


Dr. Kyle McCord, Acquisitions Director, Atmosphere Press
Dr. Kyle McCord is the author of seven books including National Poetry Series Finalist Magpies in the Valley of Oleanders and the novel Reunion of the Good Weather Suicide Cult. He has work featured or forthcoming in AGNI, Blackbird, Boston ReviewThe Gettysburg Review, The Harvard Review, The Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. He's received grants or awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Baltic Writing Residency.

Kyle holds an M.F.A. from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. He served as associate poetry editor of The Nation and currently serves as Executive Editor of Gold Wake Press and Acquisitions Director for Atmosphere Press. He is married to the visual artist Lydia McCord and lives in Des Moines, Iowa.
