Wide Open Writing Welcomes Eline van Wieren
Eline van Wieren (1993) studied Creative Writing at ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands. During her studies, she was an intern at Wide Open Writing, fell in love with the people who run it and their method for writing, and hasn't left since. She graduated with a novella called Frida & Ellis, about two sisters and a yoga teacher, that was nominated for the Graduation Prize and is currently working on her debut novel for dutch publishing house De Geus. Eline is immensely interested in the relationship between the body and literature. She surrounds her writing practice with rituals, yoga sessions and endless walks. She is also studying to become a holistic massage therapist.
Certain pieces of writing keep finding their way back to me. One of those is a poem by Kelli Russell Agadon, called String Theory Relationships (read it here). Sometimes, the last sentence randomly pops up into my head, singing: '... and today, darling, darling, darling, the flashlight works.'
The minor details often shed the most light on what needs to be seen or felt in writing. It's the tiniest details, not just in writing but in life in general, that bring us hope. That's what we will be working on during this first WOW Writing Session of the year. Tiny details and hope.
