WOW First Sunday with Pam Dumlao

March First Sunday:
Writing Through Your Senses with Pam Dumlao

March 5, 2023
2-4 pm (EST)
via Zoom

Whenever I smell a mint leaf, I am immediately transported back to the house on Lill Avenue in Chicago watching my great-grandmother bake her Romanian goodies when I was just 4 years old. When I hear the song September by Earth, Wind, and Fire my heart still breaks a little bit more for the boy I loved the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of college 44 years ago.  Maybe looking at old photographs triggers memories of family vacations, lost loves, or junior high bullies. The senses are so powerful and can be a great catalyst for good memoir.

We'll explore how to tap into these wild and wonderful senses and see what ends up on the page with some personal stories.

Join me Sunday, March 5th, 2:00pm - 4:00pm (EST) online via Zoom

About Pam Dumlao

Pam’s creative self first whispered to her during a writing class in high school, emerging occasionally during her corporate life in the form of business proposals. Retirement – and the transformational WOW experience – has given Pam’s creative voice new volume, and she’s listening.

Travel has enabled Pam to hear creative voices from other places. Whether living on her own in Slovakia or heading out on safari in East Africa, Pam has asked fundamental questions to better understand the human experience – how does tradition, history and experience shape culture? What makes people happy? The answers have shaped Pam’s perspective in life and in writing. Now she wants to share the magic of travel, inspiration and setting provided by WOW retreats with other writers. When at home in Dallas, Texas she loves to spend time with friends and family and is always in search of the best new patio in town for Friday night happy hour. Most days, however, she finds her zen by writing in her custom-built she-shack.

WOW First Sundays 2023

We’ve had a great couple of years doing WOW First Sunday, collecting writers and presenters from everywhere to support each other’s writing efforts. And now it’s time for us to pay the presenters. They’ve donated their time up till now to our collective appreciation. And WOW has donated their time as well. Let’s take it to the next level and make us all professionals.

We’re asking a suggested ticket price of $20.00 going forward. Some of you have donated more than that, which has made us very happy and has been a great reinforcer in keeping First Sunday’s going. If you want to continue to give us a little extra boost, you are absolutely encouraged in that habit. And for those that paying $20 makes it difficult to come, please write us at dulcie@wideopenwriting.com and just say so and we’ll get you a ticket.

See you soon!
